1. The Ultimate Guide to Drywall Window Returns
In recent years, for ultra-modern designers and drywallers, the word “trim” has almost become a dirty word — folks in this industry have been searching for inventive ways to ditch bulky encasements and deliver clean, trimless interior details. And if you can do that without spending a ton of time and money, even better!
That must be part of the reason why so many of our followers checked out this story, a how-to guide for creating trimless drywall window returns. With accessories like the ones highlighted in this story — like the Giant and Super L Beads — creating sleek drywall window returns doesn’t just look cleaner; it also results in saving time and money by allowing you to finish an entire window with just a few extra-wide beads. 2. 3 Ways to Finish Drywall Openings
For this story, we invited our friends (and expert renovators) Dan and Steve Tuer of Refresh Home Improvements to take over the Trim-Tex testing lab and do whatever they wanted with it. And what they wanted to do was test three different methods of finishing an entryway: the classic way, the curved way and the quick way.
The results speak for themselves — one Tuer brother took the archway, using an arched bullnose bead on one side and an arched sharp-profile corner bead on the other. The other brother went for the more tried-and-true method, also with a bullnose and sharp profile. But, if you are just trying to get it done faster and easier, both brothers were put to shame by our own drywall pro Enrique Perez, who used Fast Caps to finish his entryway in a fraction of the time. 5. How Fire Rated Super Seal-X ‘Drives Labor Productivity’ for Denver High-Rise
In addition to our lines of drywall finishing and exterior finishing beads, Trim-Tex also offers innovating Fire + Sound Solutions, which have been changing the game for code compliance in commercial construction. One of these fire rated products, Super Seal-X — a handy little bead designed for fire protection where drywall butts up against window mullions and curtain walls — recently made a huge difference at a high-rise project in Denver, Colo., and we were there to catch it in action.
“Super Seal-X is an interface between our interior partitions going into the exterior mullion of the unitized glazing system,” says Travis Vap, CEO of South Valley Drywall, the interior contractor behind this impressive project. “Traditionally in our marketplace, we've left the fire rating or that transition to the unitized glaze or the glazing trade. However, they don't really understand our trade as wall and ceiling contractors. That's where this product helps solve those issues, and interface our walls to the exterior in a cost-effective value way.” Check out the full story here.
