Why Fast Edge® Roll Is Thinner Than Other Rolled Corner Beads

If you hold Trim-Tex’s Fast Edge® Roll side-by-side next to any other popular rolled corner beads, you’ll notice it right away — this thing is thin. Even with the laminated paper covering, vinyl core and those mud locks that form an unbeatable bond to the drywall, this new drywall finishing accessory is still about a third of the thickness of comparable solutions, without sacrificing durability. Why did we design Fast Edge Roll to be thinner than other rolled corner beads? Long story short, it makes it far faster to finish and holds its shape better when installing it!

To explain the ins and outs of Fast Edge Roll’s extra-thin design, we asked Trim-Tex Business Development Manager James Barlow to help out. We’ll let James take it from here:

Why Fast Edge Roll is thinner: speed

The first reason we designed Fast Edge Roll to be thinner than other roll options out there is the most obvious: the thinner it is, the less mud you need to use to “feather out” the edges to make the corner edges appear flat. The less mud you need to use, the quicker it dries.

And, of course, the quicker it dries, the faster you’re finished! With other rolled corner beads, which are about three times as thick, you’ll have to spend that much more time and more mud to achieve a smooth surface.

Why Fast Edge Roll is thinner: easier installation

The other major reason why Fast Edge Roll was designed to be thinner than other rolled corner beads on the market is that it provides a “loose hinge” that makes it easier to use, no matter where you’re installing it. For an outside corner, just bend it once, and it holds that shape. For an inside corner, pre-bending isn’t even necessary — just place it where you want it, tuck it into the corner with your joint knife and you’re good to go.

With thicker rolled corner beads, they tend to retain a kind of “memory” of their flatness. This means that you could bend them to match your corner’s angle, and in a matter of seconds, they can stubbornly bend back to a flatter shape. The installer will then have to keep bending and re-bending before they can get it to the angle they want before applying it to the drywall. Fast Edge Roll’s thin design means it will be much simpler and faster for the contractor to install it, whether they’re working with a sharp corner or an off-angle.
