The homebuilding market in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is booming. That can create a lot of (mostly) good problems for regional contractors, keeping many of their calendars — and pockets — packed to the brim. But to keep up with demand, these businesses have had to work faster than ever, without sacrificing quality.

“We have a wide variety of different installs we do, all the way up to multimillion-dollar, high-end custom,” says Texan Drywall City Manager Seth Green. “Speed is everything around here, especially down here in Texas — it's the Wild West, as a lot of people say. It's pretty crazy. Time is money, and we've got to get these houses done as fast as possible. The faster our crews can work, the more money everybody's making from top to bottom. It's very important to us.”

We recently got a front-row seat as they put the final touches on a single-family home in a master-planned community in Aledo, Tex. — the project pictured throughout this story. They moved incredibly fast while still producing top-notch finishes.

“Texan Drywall, I believe the pillars that we stand on as a company are quality and customer service,” says Reese Mason, City Manager with Texan Drywall. “We pay a lot of attention to detail in these houses … What we do is put a quality product out there, and want to take care of people. “We primarily use materials from Murco and Trim-Tex, brands that offer the best balance of quality and price on the market,” says Cristian Escobedo, a pro finisher with Texan Drywall (translated from Spanish). “And we have a very close, long-standing relationship with them. Whenever we need specialized components for custom homes, we go with them, and they help us find the best options … We use everything from the spray-on house texture to the finishing materials. Everything is purchased from Murco — even the screws come from there. All the joint tape, the 45-degree corner beads, the [Trim-Tex] bullnose or square corners — they are all materials we got from Murco.”

Murco and Trim-Tex are both family-owned operations with long histories in the drywall world and a decades-long, tight-knit relationship. We manufacture finishing solutions right here in Lincolnwood, Ill., and Miami, Fla.; Murco supplies them to contractors throughout Texas and in Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado and Tennessee. “Murco is actually one of our biggest partners up here in DFW,” Seth tells us. “They've been with us since day one; they welcomed us with open arms when we were setting up shop here. Everyone from the front office all the way to the guys in the warehouse, everybody's been a real treat to work with.

“With Trim-Tex, it's really the same thing. Our relationship with Trim-Tex goes through Murco, so it's a partnership altogether. Anytime we need any material or if there's any delay or anything, everybody's open and honest about it, and we're figuring out the best way to overcome that problem. For an example, recently, we had a house that we needed a few specialty trim pieces, and it's going to take a while to get here. We got with Murco, we got with Trim-Tex — what's our best options here? Do we wait and get it pre-ordered? Every step of the way, they made us feel like we were getting taken care of, and we really appreciate that.”
