Deflection Bead Case Study: Museum Towers II

Philadelphia, PA

The 17 story apartment complex in Philadelphia features 270 upscale apartments and 16 three story townhouses. With the addition of a 4 story parking garage and various rooftop amenities, movement was a concern for the drywall contractor, Component Assembly Systems. Deflection is a type of movement that commonly occurs in multistory buildings with concrete floors/decks.

To protect the interior finish against building movement, Wall Mounted Deflection Bead was installed at the head of wall detail. Deflection Bead expands and contracts to protect the interior finish from cracks and damage. To receive the proper fire rating, Speedflex TTG Track Top Gasket from STI was installed behind the deflection bead.
