093V & Tear Away Case Study: NEIU Residence Hall

Chicago, IL

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) opened its first on-campus residence hall, The Nest, comprised of 6 stories/110 units. It offers 90, four-bedroom/two-bathroom units and 20 two-bedroom/two-bathroom suites. This highly sought after campus living adds to the college experience for NEIU students. Prior to the opening of this residence, NEIU was the only public university in Illinois that did not have a residence hall.

Architects from Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB) specified 093V Expansion bead which features a co- PVC extruded flexible center that provides a full " of PVC ⅜ protection against the stresses of expansion and contraction of the building, which in turn prevents cracks in the walls. Also used was the Trim-Tex Tear Away bead which is used to make finishing drywall easier and cleaner with its patented tear off strip. This bead was chosen to help prevent moisture from penetrating the drywall and gives a sharp clean edge line.
