093V & Deflection Case Study: Northwestern Mutual

Milwaukee, WI

In a major investment in the Milwaukee Skyline and with significant efforts to enhance job growth in the downtown area, Northwestern Mutual in conjunction with general contractors Gilbane and C.G. Schmidt developed a $450 million, 32-story, 1.1 million square foot tower.

To efficiently smooth rough drywall edges, Thorne & Associates and Common Links, elected to use Trim-Tex Tear Away L Bead. The tear off strip guides taping and mudding for an easy installation with a crisp finished edge. This vinyl bead creates a sleek, modern edge around trim-less doorways.

Thorne & Associates and Common Links, also selected the 093V Expansion bead to allow for controlled movements up to 3/8". The 093V Expansion bead features a flexible "v" channel that accommodates this functionality while providing a minimalist vertical or horizontal design element to walls and stairwells.

To prevent structural damage from the effects of movement, Trim-Tex Wall Mounted Deflection Bead was installed. The flexible gasket compresses and expands during deflection, preventing inside corner cracking when installed against a ceiling or concrete deck up to 7/16" of deflection.

Architectural Reveal Beads were used to finish the rotunda at the Northwestern Mutual Tower. Vinyl reveals were ideal for adding detail to the curved walls as well as offering needed expansion protection due to the large scale of the ceiling feature.
